We Are ND

We Are ND: the Story of Notre Dame as Told by Her Alumni lets you experience Notre Dame through the memories and personal photos of the people who know the University best—its alumni. Have you reserved your copy? If not, pick one up at the Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore beginning in early September.

Fighting to Make a Difference
What would you fight for? Last fall, Notre Dame launched a series of T.V. commercials that asked that very question. The ads featured ND professors and students who fight for causes such as the environment, peace, and cures for disease. This fall, the University will launch a new series of ads that highlight various ND professors and students explaining what they fight for. Known as the “Fighting For” campaign, the commercials will again focus on research—and the passion and drive—behind every research initiative at Notre Dame.

ND Student Takes the Gold

Former ND All-American and 2006 NCAA champion Mariel Zagunis won the first U.S. gold medal of the 2008 Olympics. Later in the Games, she captured her second medal as the United States women's sabre team took bronze in fencing competition. Zagunis was also saber champion in 2004 when she became the first American in a century to win a fencing gold. With her twin gold medals, Zagunis not only becomes the first U.S. fencer ever to win multiple sabre golds, but also the first of any nationality since France's Jean-Francois Lamour won golds in men's sabre in 1984 and 1988. In addition, Zagunis is the first former Notre Dame student-athlete ever to earn multiple Olympic gold medals. Click here to read the full story.

Sharing the History of Our Lady’s University

With the goal of preserving Notre Dame history, the Alumni Association launched the ND Oral History Project last fall — a project that involves recording and sharing the stories of alumni from their time at Notre Dame, as well as their experiences and accomplishments afterwards. These stories not only document the history of Our Lady’s University, they embody the character, tradition, and ideals of the entire Notre Dame family.

Now, the NDAA has launched the ND Oral History website that features some of these edited stories and photos. Each story, available for download here, averages three to four minutes in length.

In addition to their publication on the website, the complete interview recordings will be stored in the University Archives allowing future Domers to hear first-hand accounts of Notre Dame history for years to come.
