Remember Loved Ones at the Grotto

< < Back

Each November, the Notre Dame Alumni Association prayer team gathers at the Grotto to pray the Rosary and light a special candle on behalf of all the faithful departed.

This year’s prayer session will be held on the Feast of All Saints, Friday, Nov. 1, at 8:30 a.m. All are welcome.

If you cannot attend in person but would like your loved ones remembered in prayer during the service, please submit your prayer requests here by Tuesday, Oct. 29.

This is a wonderful opportunity for alumni and friends of the University around the world to pause and pray for the souls of their loved ones. Wherever you are that morning, consider inviting your family, your club, or your prayer group to join you in praying the Rosary. When we gather together to pray for our deceased loved ones, we are expressing our faith as a community and bearing witness to God’s promise of eternal life.

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. ~ Matthew 18:20

This annual prayer service is not the only opportunity we have to gather together in prayer. Each weekday morning, thousands of people of faith across the globe receive an email containing the day’s Gospel Reading, a reflection, “Saint of the Day,” and a prayer. This email service is provided through FaithND, our online prayer resource for shared prayer, reflection, service, and learning.

Imagine reading and praying at the same time someone on the other side of the world is reading and praying the same words along with you.

Two of our regular readers shared how this service has been a blessing in their lives:

“From the moment I began to receive the daily email I find myself looking forward to taking the 5 minutes each morning (with my coffee of course), as I sit at my desk. It's what I do before I even check my other e-mails or answer voice mail. I have grown to find this necessary before the rapid pace of the day begins because it is too easy to lose my ‘center.’ This helps to remind me of how to treat my co-workers and customers who seek my assistance as well as how to interact with people outside of work.”

“FaithND has been a lifeline to sanity for me. I am an Army spouse and during my husband's deployments and now my daughter [ND 08] and son-in-law's deployments, reading FaithND is the first thing I do every morning. If I could say it simply...reading FaithND helps me helps me shake off the terrors of the night and allows me to start each day with hope and a prayer. Thank you...”
