Record Number of Alumni Return for Reunion

Dancing with the Stars: ND Style
Notre Dame legend Knute Rockne coined the phrase, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” The Ballroom Dance Club has taken a unique approach to his words, donning a similar version, “When the going gets tough, the tough go dancing,” on its club t-shirts. The Notre Dame Ballroom Club president and fourth year architecture major Aimee Sunny remembers this phrase from her first year with the club. [Full Story]

'Emil's Army' on the March
ND Dean Emeritus Emil T. Hofman traveled to Haiti in January and March, and he was on his way back this May. At 88 years old, Hofman is a man with a mission—bringing volunteer physician support to Notre Dame’s Haiti Program, which, under the direction of Rev. Thomas G. Streit, C.S.C., seeks to prevent lymphatic filariasis, a mosquito-borne disease affecting 25 percent of the population, as much as 50 percent in some areas.“I was in my 80s when I started this,” Hofman says. “I wanted to do something worthwhile with these final years of my life.” [Full Story]

Graduating Seniors Honored for Postgraduate Service
Some 196 Notre Dame graduating seniors embarking on a year or more of service in the U.S. and abroad were honored during the University’s annual Senior Service Send-Off ceremony on May 16.

See Lou Holtz Enshrined in Hall of Fame
Mark your calendars: on July 18, Lou Holtz will be enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend. Coach Holtz was a fixture in the college football coaching landscape for more than three decades. Best known for his tenure at Notre Dame, Holtz led the Fighting Irish to the 1988 National Championship and 100 wins. Astronaut Alumnus Aboard Space Shuttle Flight
Notre Dame alumnus Michael T. Good ’84, ’86 M.A., an Air Force colonel, was a member of the Space Shuttle Atlantis Mission STS-125 crew that lifted off May 11 for NASA’s final mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope. The flight was Good’s first shuttle mission and he flew as a mission specialist. He took a Notre Dame pennant with him into space. [Full Story]
