The opening of Notre Dame to women changed the identity of the University in a myriad of ways. Father Hesburgh says that Notre Dame is healthier, more intellectual, and more cultural. And these women are now solidifying their unique identity as Notre Dame alumnae through a developing affinity group, ND Women Connect. ND Alums Teach for America
Nearly 30 members of Notre Dame’s class of 2009 committed to teach two years in urban and rural public schools across the country with the Teach for America (TFA) program, putting ND in the top 10 among institutions with enrollments between 3,000 and 9,999 undergraduates. This year’s class of applicants was the largest in TFA history – more than 35,000 applied for the 4,100 positions. Notre Dame was among the 130 colleges and universities nationwide that had more than 5 percent of the senior class apply to the program. [Full Story]

ND Receives Funding for Energy Frontier Research Center
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has granted $18.5 million in funding to Notre Dame for an Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC). EFRCs, which will pursue advanced scientific research on energy, are being established by the DOE’s Office of Science at universities, national laboratories, nonprofit organizations, and private firms across the nation. ND Perspectives Videos Available Online
ND Perspectives, a seminar series featuring faculty and alumni, premiered to a packed house at Washington Hall during Reunion 2009. And now, videos of both panel discussions are available for viewing online. The topics of the series, “The First 100 Days: What’s Next?” and “The Economic Crisis: Its Causes and Its Cures” were chosen due to their importance and relevance to the Notre Dame audience. Family Service in Costa Rica
This summer, eight families brought the Notre Dame tradition of service and learning to the rural country side of Costa Rica through a unique “service-vacation” experience. Participants of the Alumni Association’s annual Costa Rica Family Service Trip, accompanied by Katie Zakas ‘04, NDAA director of service, lived with families in the rural Alajuela province as they performed more than 25 hours of volunteer work for Costa Rican service agencies. Alumni Documentary Film Festival
This fall, the iNDustry Alliance will welcome back four alumni filmmakers to campus for a festival of award-winning documentary films. The iNDustry Alliance Alumni Documentary Film Festival takes place in Browning Cinema at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center Oct. 1-3, the weekend of the Notre Dame-Washington football game.
